Full description
Berat is one of the most beautiful and most photographed cities in Albania — a UNESCO World Heritage City rising in layers of white Ottoman houses, Byzantine churches, and a hilltop castle above the Osum River gorge. Known as the City of a Thousand Windows for the rows of identical arched windows that cover its stone facades, Berat is a place where history is literally built into every wall.
This 8 to 9-hour private tour from Tirana takes you to the castle — one of the few inhabited castles in Europe — and through the famous Mangalem and Gorica quarters, crossing the historic Gorica Bridge over the river. The optional Onufri Museum inside the Castle Cathedral holds masterpieces of 16th-century Albanian iconography, and the Ethnographic Museum tells the story of everyday life in Ottoman Berat. Free time by the river is available for lunch at a local restaurant. A professional guide, private transport, hotel pickup and drop-off, and the castle entrance fee are all included.
