4-Day Tour · Berat · Gjirokastra · Butrint · 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Berat, Gjirokastra, and Butrint form a trifecta of ancient beauty and cultural splendor. Each destination offers a unique window into Albania's rich history and captivating folklore — from the architectural wonders of Berat and the enchanting streets of Gjirokastra, to the archaeological treasures of Butrint. Prepare to be transported through time, connecting with the vibrant tapestry of Albania's past.
🏛️ Day 1 — Tirana – Gjirokastra Our tour leader picks you up at your hotel in Tirana. We head to Gjirokastra — "The Stone City" — a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern Albania. Gjirokastra resembles a fortified city where every house is like a small fortress. We pass through the medieval bazaar before reaching the castle — one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Balkans. Every five years it hosts the famous Albanian folklore festival. We visit one of the best-preserved original houses of Gjirokastra. Overnight in Gjirokastra.
🌊 Day 2 — Gjirokastra – Butrint – Albanian Riviera We move to Butrint — the most important archaeological site in Albania and the first Albanian site on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The ruins combined with stunning natural surroundings make it unmissable. Next we head to Ksamil — a tropical paradise with white sandy beaches and four islands visible from the shore. The "pearl of the Albanian Riviera" and one of the best beach destinations in Europe. Overnight near the Albanian Riviera.
🏖️ Day 3 — Albanian Riviera – Berat Driving along the Albanian Riviera, we pass through some of Albania's most beautiful beaches — Llamani, Dhërmi, and Palasë — through small villages clinging to cliff faces with vines and fig trees. We arrive in Berat — the "City of 1001 Windows" — another UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore the medieval castle, the Onufri Museum, and the Gorica neighborhood. Overnight in Berat.
🏟️ Day 4 — Berat – Durres – Tirana After breakfast we head to ancient Durres — visiting the Amphitheatre, Roman ruins, and the Venetian Tower. We walk along the "Vollga" seafront promenade, enjoy a coffee with sea views, and taste the traditional Durres ice cream before returning to Tirana.
