Full description
Explore the city of Gjirokastra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a guided walking tour that brings its extraordinary history to life. Begin at the Bazaar — a bustling marketplace lined with traditional Albanian crafts, clothing, restaurants, and cafes where you can sample local cuisine and soak up the authentic atmosphere of this remarkable city. From there, head up to the iconic
Gjirokastra Castle, built in the 12th century and now home to a fascinating museum. The castle's hilltop position offers breathtaking panoramic views over the city and the surrounding mountains that are not to be missed. After the castle, visit the Skënduli House — a beautifully preserved traditional Ottoman-era home converted into a museum, filled with antiques and artifacts that tell the story of Gjirokastra's people and their way of life across the centuries.
The tour concludes with a leisurely stroll through the city's famous cobblestone streets, lined with stunning stone houses, churches, and mosques that make Gjirokastra one of the most visually remarkable cities in the entire Balkans.
Wear comfortable shoes as the streets are cobblestone and the city sits on a hill. A camera is highly recommended to capture the architecture and views.
